Design Ecology
As part of Northwestern's robust design ecology, EDI students benefit from engagement with students and faculty at the Segal Design Institute within the McCormick School of Engineering.

EDI students also participate in courses offered through the Kellogg School of Management, Medill School of Journalism, Media, and Integrated Marketing Communications, Feinberg School of Medicine, and Pritzker School of Law.
Furthermore, EDI students regularly take NUvention courses through the Farley Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, collaborate on startups at The Garage, and mentor undergraduate students as Design Coaches in the Northwestern Engineering's Design Thinking & Communication course sequence—all part of the McCormick School of Engineering.
EDI students also hone their design skills through extracurricular opportunities, including Design for America, VentureCat, and Design + Law.
Prototyping & Fabrication Spaces on Campus
There are a variety of resources on Northwestern’s Evanston and Chicago campuses for design innovation.
CORNER MAKERY
The Corner3D PRINTING & RAPID PROTOTYPING LAB
The Ford Rapid Prototyping Lab hosts an array of cutting-edge, additive manufacturing technology tools, including an Objet Connex Polyjet and Fortus FDM machines from Stratasys, as well as Color 3D Printing equipment from 3D systems. These tools enable students to create complex models quickly and using a wide range of materials.MECHATRONICS DESIGN LAB
The Mechatronics Lab includes all necessary equipment for electrical wiring and prototyping, processor programming, and low-level physical prototyping. The lab may be used for work on any Northwestern course or research project, which requires development of mechatronics systems.Looking for something else?
