Sherry (Yangmiao) Xu, EDI '24Design Research, Product Management, UI/UX

About

Sherry started off as an industrial design student four years ago, and considered product design as making aesthetically pleasing products for users. Throughout her journey in design, Sherry was later immersed in an environment where design thinking was emphasized. With a highly empathetic mind, she realized design goes beyond the appearance. Sherry decided to pursue her interest in psychology to help her understand user-centric design better. In the future, she would like to challenge herself in designing digital products with a human-centered approach, eventually pursuing leadership in a product design team to solve problems creatively.

Why EDI?

Sherry has a background in industrial design and psychology. As a designer, she enjoys applying knowledge from psychology in the process of inquiry and ideation. This fusion between two disciplines motivated her to dive deeper into human-center design. EDI is a program that revolves around "product feasibility, viability, and usability" in creating human-centered products and services which resonates with Sherry's philosophy in design. The hands-on projects and comprehensive curriculum provided by EDI will allow Sherry to practically apply what has been learnt in the class to the real world. Sherry also desires to work with people from different backgrounds and believes she will make an impact with the cohort.
