Andrea Vargas Cabrera, EDI '27Consumer Products, Inclusive Design, Physical Product Design

About

Andrea has wanted to be a designer since she saw Back to the Future II as a child and realized that no one had yet made self-tying sneakers. After taking a course including Design Justice in college, she realized the role of everyday products in making life "just a little bit better" for everyone, hence her newfound passion for accessible and adaptable product design. Andrea believes that accessibility in everyday life benefits everyone, and aspires to help move society in that direction.

Why EDI?

With a technical engineering background, Andrea wanted to discover how the niches in the world of design could lead her towards her goals in accessible and human-centered design. Not only that, but her past work had taught her that the best design is interdisciplinary and comes from experience in the field. Both of these ideas explain her decision to continue her education into the field of design as well as joining the EDI program.

Experience before EDI
