Ada Michaels Shapiro, EDI '24Healthcare, Physical Product Design, UI/UX

About

Ada's experience as a first generation Nigerian-American has profoundly shaped her worldview. She has seen how historically marginalized communities have typically been ignored in the design process, and as a result, she is passionate about design that focuses on equity and accessibility. She believes that the key to human centered design and engineering are the end users! Her neuroscience and healthcare backgrounds allow her the opportunity to better understand the end user's thought processes, making for a more comprehensible design process. Ada is interested in working at the intersection of healthcare, product design, and UI/UX. She hopes to create user-friendly, practical solutions to complex problems, and to aid in the design of systems that contribute toward improved understanding, prevention, and treatment of health conditions.

Why EDI?

Ada chose EDI because of its focus on human centered design and innovation, paired with opportunities to engage in solving complex, real world problems. Growing up, Ada always knew that she wanted to work in the healthcare field – that’s why she chose to attend medical school! Though she cherished her time in medical school, she soon came to realize that she continually felt unfulfilled. After coming to this realization, she decided to switch gears and attempt to pursue her passion for medicine and healthcare from a different angle. She plans to focus her attention on building the skills needed to navigate the interdisciplinary healthcare field, in order to develop practical solutions that address unique challenges.
