Ritika Ramesh, EDI '24Design Engineering, Inclusive Design, UI/UX

About

Ritika comes from a diverse background, growing up in different countries as a third culture kid. She found a place to call home throughout her journey as she discovered storytelling through design and its power to shape the future. As a storyteller, Ritika is passionate about integrating diversity and empowering users by sharing and focusing on their experiences and needs. Growing up as a creative and studying design, she learned the importance of research and the design process to understand the depths of the subject before prototyping.

Before Ritika learned about design or computers, she learned about humans, which drives everything she does. Her role as a designer and artist revolves around empathy, inclusivity, and user-centric design. In the future, Ritika hopes to continue her pursuit of bridging gaps in marginalized communities and improving connectivity.

Why EDI?

While Ritika always saw herself as a designer and artist, her exploration of inclusive and user-centered design began during her thesis as an undergraduate. She worked with artisans and lower-income hand weavers to bring awareness to the endangerment of their craft to bring their story to the forefront of design through visual storytelling. While her approach seemed a step in the right direction, she began pondering on how she could integrate these neglected communities into today’s technology-driven world.

Ritika chose EDI because of its human-centered approach to design and hopes to strengthen her technical skills in engineering design and grow further as a designer. The program’s interdisciplinary focus on research, iterative design, and hands-on product design presents her with an understanding of a variety of processes. Ritika looks forward to working with the diverse cohort, incredible faculty, and being a part of the supportive community at EDI.
