Abstract
Gary Zamchick has spent 30+ years at the intersection of technology and design. In a period of rapid and continuous disruption, making leaps of imagination with clarity and confidence is increasingly important, while building effectively upon existing platforms. This talk will focus on our need for liquidity of thought that leverages our innate forms of discovery, and passion-mapping that helps illuminate our way forward with the authenticity of purpose to persevere. It draws from his experiences as an "envisioner:” navigating world-class technical and design environments, entrepreneurial experience creating a first-of-its-kind technology, and his current work, co-authoring a graphic novel-style book about how companies manage disruptive change.
Bio
Gary Zamchick is an innovation strategist who has worked in and out of technology environments like AT&T Labs Research, Sarnoff, and IBM and world-class design studios like Rockwell Group, ESIDesign, and Push Pin Studios.
He is an adjunct professor in computer science at Columbia University and served as Strategic Designer in Residence at Cornell Tech for two years. He illustrated the best-selling “French for Cats” humor book series, designed innovation labs for Coca-Cola, scoped out the experience for a Disney World Parade, and is co-founder of WordsEye, a technology startup building a first-of-its-kind application that lets anyone conjure up 3D scenes by simply describing them. He is currently co-authoring a graphic novel-like book entitled “Making Change (Really) Happen” for Penguin Random House.
