Katie MorgenrothDirector of Sustainable Design, Google Devices
As Google’s Director of Sustainable Design, Katie Morgenroth blends art and science to envision and build environmentally conscious products that prioritize circularity and longevity. Her approach is rooted in an industrial design background, allowing her to unite diverse teams around a clear vision to drive complex, sustainable initiatives forward. This leadership was central to her work on the 2025 Pixel Portfolio, the first collection of devices designed inside and out with repair in mind.
Throughout her tenure, Katie has championed embedding sustainability into the earliest stages of design—extending product life, reducing carbon footprints, and integrating circular materials. She previously led the Google Home Industrial Design team, overseeing the launch of iconic products like the Nest Mini, Nest Audio, Nest WiFi Pro and Chromecast with Google TV. Prior to Google, Katie worked at Motorola Mobility, landing products such as the Moto 360 smartwatch, Atrix HD smartphone and Moto X with Moto Maker platform. Previous to Motorola, Katie held senior design positions at Skullcandy and Insight Product Development.
Katie holds a BFA in Industrial Design from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a Master’s in Product Design and Development from Northwestern University, and a Professional Certificate in Sustainability Leadership from MIT. Now based in San Mateo, California, she remains engaged in the design community as a mentor with the Women in Industrial Design SF program. When she isn't sleeping or working, Katie enjoys art, glamping and renovation projects alongside her husband, two sons, and their Maine Coon cat.
