Student groups provide opportunities to develop leadership skills and network with faculty, staff, and professionals in the field.

Northwestern Formula Racing (Formula SAE)

Founded in 2006, this undergraduate organization designs and builds racecars from scratch to compete in the Formula SAE race, organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Baja SAE Team

Baja SAE students design and build off-road vehicles that can survive the punishment of rough terrain. Since 1988, Northwestern’s Baja SAE Team has competed in Baja-style races sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers. The team actively seeks new undergraduate members.

Northwestern University Solar Car Team (NUsolar)

NUsolar is an undergraduate student organization that designs, builds, and races solar-powered vehicles. Since it is completely student-run, team members take on a wide spectrum of responsibilities, including engineering, manufacturing, operations, marketing, and finance.

Segal Professional Bridge (SPB)

The Segal Professional Bridge group connects graduate and undergraduate students affiliated with the Segal Design Institute with like-minded professionals and students from other schools who are passionate about the broad field of design. SPB hosts networking events, workshops, and presentations on campus throughout the academic year.

Design Competition

Every year, teams of undergraduates from different departments come together to build robots and compete for prizes. Student teams design, build, and program their robots independently before setting their creations loose on a pre-determined track during the spring competition.

EPIC

This student-run, interdisciplinary group connects entrepreneurship resources throughout Northwestern. EPIC sponsors competitions, coordinates special events, and provides general support for entrepreneurial students.

Design for America (DFA)

Design for America (DFA) is an award-winning nationwide network of interdisciplinary student teams and community members using design to create local and social impact. DFA teaches human centered design to young adults and collaborating community partners through extra-curricular, university based, student led design studios to look locally, create fervently and act fearlessly. DFA currently tackles national challenges in Education, Health, Economy and Environment.trains the next generation of social innovators.

ESW at Northwestern mobilizes engineers through education, training, and practical action while building collaborative partnerships to meet the needs of current and future generations. Through educational outreach and action-based projects, the organization empowers undergraduates to take on leadership roles in applying sustainability principles to their work.

3D4E

3D4E (3D printing for everyone) is Northwestern's first student organization dedicated to 3D printing and computer-aided design education. 3D4E members come together from a diverse set of backgrounds to tackle projects, hold workshops, and spread the experience of designing and creating using approachable technology through 3D printing.
