Quarter Offered

Spring : Friday, 9am-12pm. 5w1; Ford Prototyping Lab ; Kim Hoffmann

Prerequisites

None.

Description

This five-week, skills-based course introduces students to the basics of fabrication in sterling silver. While jewelry is the most obvious application, we will not solely focus on jewelry as the outcome.

We’ll learn design principles, tools and terminology, techniques for piercing, soldering and finishing through hands-on practice and completion of two projects. Students in this course can expect to expand their attention to detail, exercise their patience, and hone their appreciation for finishing work to the highest possible level.

No previous experience with precious metalsmithing is required. This course will require students to complete basic shop safety training.
