Vinay  RevankarJob before MMM: Software Engineer at Amazon Music for Artists

Vinay Revankar

Why did you choose MMM?

Before I came to Kellogg I was as a software engineer at Amazon, most recently in Amazon Music. While I enjoyed the products I built and the people I collaborated with, I wanted to learn how a product comes to fruition in the first place. I wanted to complement my technical skills with business acumen to help me develop products I’m passionate about. AI explored MBA programs, my research led me to MMM, a tailored program that places a focus on product innovation and human centered design through both Kellogg and the McCormick School of Engineering. I believed the dual degree program would teach me everything to know about building a successful product from the ground up and would differentiate myself in work opportunities.

Another reason I chose MMM was for its small class size. Throughout my academic journey, the communities where I had a connection with everyone were the best. Where no one was a stranger to you and you were a stranger to no one. It creates an incredible culture where you feel empowered to be yourself and grow alongside others with diverse backgrounds and experiences. And MMM has done just that.

What is life like as a MMM student?

Life as a MMM Student comes with so many opportunities and experiences. It’s a mix of classes, recruiting, meeting incredible people, and exploring Evanston and Chicago! Here’s are some snippets from my experience:
Always seeing a familiar MMM face in the sea of Kellogg students at the Hub
  • Taking the MMM exclusive Research Design Build (RDB) course, it’demanding but incredibly rewarding; it taught me a lot about building a product from ideation to execution. You also get to work with notable companies!
  • Exploring Chicago and Evanston with those who have come from outside the United States and those who were born and raised in Chicago!
  • Learning about new companies and their job opportunities through their lunch and learn sessions in the Hub
  • Hearing from incredible industry leaders in design through MMM networking sessions

What have you loved about your MMM experience?

MMM students come to campus a quarter early in the summer along with the One Year MBA students. Being on an empty campus with a small cohort provided a rare sense of freedom, as everyone felt excited to get to know one another, embrace MMM traditions (*cough* wedding *cough*), and dive headfirst back into student life.
Also, the MMM Lounge. You come to appreciate it when you need a quiet space or an empty study room when over a thousand Kellogg studentcome on campus
