Isabel BoteroJob before MMM: Senior Consultant at Deloitte Consulting

Isabel Botero

Why did you choose MMM?

I have always strived to find the balance between an analytical mindset and a human-centered perspective. In college, I double majored in Business Analytics and Psychology. In consulting, I brought a user-centric lens to solving problems for my clients. Kellogg's MMM stood out as a unique program where these two worlds converge.

I thrive on solving challenging, ambiguous problems with empathy. When former colleagues introduced me to MMM, I was drawn to its holistic and empathetic problem-solving methodology. I chose the program to expand my cross-functional toolkit, enabling me to tackle complex challenges to drive innovation - always with people at the core

What is life like as a MMM student?

Every day changes. Days are busy, but in the best way. When else will I have a day where I am learning from the best professors, going to a lunch and learn with a CEO, followed by a small group dinner (SGD) with my close friends? Here is an outline of a typical day:

  • Wake up at 6:45 to get ready for the day
  • Go to 8:30 FinTech and Society class with Professor Gregor Matvos, followed by Microeconomics
  • Attend a Lunch and Learn with a Kellogg alumni. A recent highlight was Camiel Irving, VP of Uber who talked about her career pivots that led her to a very successful career at Uber
  • Work on a group project or homework
  • Have a coffee chat with a MMM second year to learn more about their internship
  • End the day with Operations class with all my fellow MMMs
  • Attend a SGD at someone’s apartment

My days are packed with a combination of academics, recruiting, social, and personal interests.

What have you loved about your MMM experience?

The people. The MMM program brings together people from a variety of backgrounds but with similar mindsets. My classmates are empathetic, creative, intelligent, and curious. We have shared hours working on RDB, (Research,Design,Build), hosting and attending countless SGDs, and making the most out of the Evanston beach in the summer. We have built a tight cohort of supportive friends who want to see each other succeed. Some of my favorite memories include: jumping in the lake every Thursday at 7:00 am during the summer, the MMM wedding, Friday chill runs, making arepas for SGDs, and the MMM retreat where we got to share time with the MMM second years.
