Deborah WoodLecturer, The Cook Family Writing Program


Deborah Wood is a lecturer with The Cook Family Writing Program. She has taught the Design Thinking and Communication (DTC) course for seven years. She is a part-time copy editor at the Chicago Tribune, is a freelance writer, and has a side business editing dissertations and other academic papers.

Before coming to Northwestern's Writing Program, Wood taught copy editing for seven years at Medill and worked for 14 years at the Chicago Tribune as a reporter and editor.

Wood has a BA in English from Illinois State University, where she received a full tuition scholarship in journalism, and a master's degree in interdisciplinary studies from Columbia College.

She spends her leisure time reading and volunteering.
