Kate GarmeyAdjunct Lecturer


Kate is a community designer who applies human-centered design principles to create products, experiences and technology solutions that strengthen brands and connect and inspire people. As the founder of Drink Tank, a community-powered innovation studio, she brings multidisciplinary audiences together to co-create, collaborate and invent new solutions to familiar problems. Most recently Kate worked with GrubHub to design and execute RestaurantHER, the company’s first fully integrated social impact program.

In addition to teaching at the Segal Design Institute, Kate is an adjunct with Medill IMC where she leads graduate students through an immersion course in human-centered design and innovation at the school’s San Francisco campus. Kate is also an educator with Stanford LEAD, an online executive program with the Graduate School of Business focused on corporate innovation.

Kate is a Maine native, a San Francisco expat, and a global citizen, but she calls Chicago home. She lives in Roscoe Village with her husband, son and their dog, Baxter.
