Kyndrea HeadDeloitte Consulting - Applied Design

How have you leveraged MMM in your career so far?

The MMM program has been critical in positioning me for work in human-centered design, innovation, and concept development. Not only has the Masters in Design Innovation helped to provide credibility amongst my colleagues, but, more importantly, it gave me the foundation of tangible design skills, understanding of the design and innovation process, a comfort with the language and methodologies, and hands-on practice bringing these skillsets to life. Coupling the Design Innovation education with the business education gave me the unique opportunity to learn and practice at the intersection of these two disciplines through classes, projects, and real-life engagements that blend these 2 ways of thinking. By having expertise in both, I am more uniquely positioned to bridge the gap with my colleagues at Deloitte and to help great ideas come to life!

What advice do you have for a student starting the MMM Program?

As is often the case in graduate school, prioritizing and balancing all the demands and opportunities can be challenging and exhausting - balancing the design vs. business part of your experience is no different. This prioritization of your time and energy is a personal choice and everyone tackles it differently - but the people who were most happy with how they spent their time, what they learned and experienced, and who they built relationships with were the ones who were thoughtful about their goals and priorities BEFORE starting classes. Take the time and make goals, think about what you want, and then calendar in (yes, literally put it on your calendar :) ) time each quarter to see how you're doing against those goals. Have your goals changed? - which is ok! Or have you just gotten distracted from what you really want? This introspection and thoughtfulness is key to making the most of your time!
