Sergio  Marquina

About

Sergio loves working with people and what results from that exchange of ideas. He is always up for a challenge, especially the ones that seem impossible. While Sergio likes a good result, he really enjoys the journey and the process of getting there. He tries to maintain a sense of wonder in life. Sergio always tries to capture this idea in the things that he designs. His goal in life is to do what he loves, fulfill his purpose, and help others fulfill theirs.

Why EDI?

Growing up, Sergio had an interest in science and math, but he also enjoyed graphic design and video production. He majored in aerospace engineering at the University of Central Florida, where he learned a lot of the theoretical aspects of engineering. However, Sergio realized that he wanted to explore the more creative side of engineering. During his junior year, he took a class with a professor who exposed him to human-centered design and the pioneering work by companies such as IDEO. Sergio was enthralled by the idea of taking engineering and focusing it around the user. After graduating, Sergio started searching for opportunities to learn more about this field and came across the EDI program at Northwestern. Its engineering approach to design (rather than a fine arts approach) attracted him. After learning more about the faculty's vast experience in the field and the structure of the program, Sergio knew this was the place for him. So far, it has proven to be a perfect fit.
